Delivered to London
Cable sand delivered across London
UK Power Networks runs the network across all of London. Its “London” licence area covers inner London; most outer boroughs fall in its East of England or South East England areas, under the same rules. Tight streets mean bulk bags craned off are often easier than tipped loads.
Operator rules last checked 2 October 2026.

UK Power Networks’s rules for the sand
- All bedding compacted to 75 mm across the full trench width.
- Blinding compacted to 100 mm over the cable.
- Low voltage and 11 kV: sand bedding. 33 kV to 132 kV: a cement-bound sand bed to ENA TS 97-1 unless the rating calculations show it is not needed, and blinding with cement-bound sand.
These are from the 2015 version of UK Power Networks’ standard, the one we have been able to read. A newer version (14.2, November 2024) exists, so check it before you rely on these figures.

Delivery to London
How quickly
Usually next day. Tell us about access, loading restrictions and parking, and we plan the delivery around them.
What we supply
Cable sand, sand for cement-bound sand or CBS pre-mixed dry, gravel and sand mix, and crushed limestone or granite dust (3 mm to dust). Tested sand where your spec asks for it, standard sand where it does not.
How it comes
Tipper loads of about 20 tonnes, artic loads of about 28 to 30 tonnes, or 850 kg bulk bags lifted off by crane. Bulk bags from one bag; loose tipper loads from 10 tonnes.
Most London jobs have nowhere to tip, so bulk bags placed by the lorry’s crane are usually the answer. Tell us the street, any loading restrictions and the time window.
Work out how much you need with the calculator. Bedding and blinding step by step in the trench guide.
