For solar farms
Cable sand for solar farms
A solar farm is kilometres of cable trench: array cables between the panel rows, cables to the inverters and substation, and the grid connection out to the network. That is a lot of sand, often to a rural site a long way from a quarry. We deliver cable sand and sand for cement-bound sand anywhere in the UK, in artic and tipper loads booked around your programme.

What you usually need
Artic loads
About 28 to 30 tonnes a load. The lowest haulage cost per tonne for long trench runs, where the site can take an artic.
Cable sand
For bedding and blinding the array and low voltage cables across the site.
Cement-bound sand
Where the spec asks for it, often on the higher voltage cables to the grid connection. Sand to mix on site, or pre-mixed dry.
What matters on your jobs
Haulage is most of the price
Solar sites are often rural and far from a quarry, so full artic loads matter. Send the postcode and access details and we price the cheapest way to get it there.
Site access
Farm tracks, soft ground and gateways decide what lorry can get in. Tell us early, and where the stockpile should go.
Loads around the trenching
Tell us the trenching programme and we book loads to keep up with it, rather than one big drop that sits for weeks.
Grid connection spec
The cable out to the network is built to the network operator’s rules. Tell us the operator and voltage and we price what they ask for.
Questions
How much cable sand does a solar farm need?
It depends on the trench lengths, widths and how much sand goes round the cables. Use the cable sand calculator for each run, or send us the layout and we work it out.
Can you deliver to a field with no hard standing?
Tell us what the access is like. A tipper can usually reach further than an artic, and bulk bags can be craned off at the gate. We work out what suits the site.
Do you supply the whole job or part loads?
Either. From a few bulk bags to finish a run to artic loads for the whole site.
