For street lighting and highways
Cable sand for street lighting
Every lighting column, illuminated sign and traffic signal is fed by a cable or duct in the ground, and that cable needs clean, stone-free sand around it. We supply lighting contractors, highways teams and councils with cable sand in bulk bags or tipper loads, delivered to the depot or straight to site anywhere in the UK.

What you usually need
Bulk bags
About 850 kg each, craned off. Easy to drop along a route or at the depot for crews to draw from.
Tipper loads
For long cable or duct runs on new roads and lighting schemes.
Cable sand
Standard cable sand for most lighting work, or tested sand where the spec asks for it.
What matters on your jobs
Working on the highway
Deliveries to a live road need planning. Tell us the traffic management, the drop point and the time window.
Depot or site
Many crews keep bags at the depot and take them out as they go. Tell us which suits you.
Depth and ducting
How deep the cable or duct goes is set by the highway authority’s spec and, for the supply, the network operator. We supply the sand to suit.
Repeat orders
Lighting work is steady rather than one big job. Tell us roughly what you get through and we can keep you topped up.
Questions
Do street lighting cables need tested sand?
It depends on the job. Most lighting work uses standard clean cable sand, but where the spec or the network operator asks for sand to ENA TS 97-1, ask for our test certificate.
Can you deliver bulk bags to our depot?
Yes. Bulk bags are lifted off by the lorry’s crane, so you do not need a forklift. Tell us where you want them.
How much sand for a lighting column?
It depends on the trench or duct run to it. Put the length, width and sand depth into the cable sand calculator for an estimate.
