For groundworkers and builders
Cable sand for service trenches
On housing sites and new builds, the electricity service trenches need bedding and blinding in clean cable sand, usually to the network operator’s rules where the cables will be adopted. We deliver cable sand and sand for cement-bound sand to site anywhere in the UK, by the tipper load or the bulk bag.

What you usually need
Tipper loads
Tipped on site for the service trenches across a development.
Bulk bags
About 850 kg each, for small sites, single plots or topping up as the job goes.
Cable sand
Clean, stone-free sand for bedding and blinding cables and ducts.
What matters on your jobs
Adoptable work
If the network operator will adopt the cables, their rules set the sand. Tell us the operator and we price what they ask for.
Not building sand
Building sand and sharp sand are not cable sand. Adoptable work needs sand that meets ENA TS 97-1, with test results.
Phased sites
Tell us the phases and we deliver as each one opens up, rather than one big stockpile.
Shared trenches
Where electricity shares a trench with other services, the network operator’s rules still set the sand around the cables.
Questions
Is cable sand the same as building sand?
No. Cable sand comes from a tested source and has to pack down and carry heat away from the cable. Building sand is not tested for that, so adoptable cable work will not accept it.
How do I work out how much I need?
Use the cable sand calculator with the trench length, width and sand depth. It takes the ducts off and gives tonnes and bulk bags.
Do you deliver to sites with no tipping room?
Yes. Bulk bags are lifted off by the lorry’s crane, so they can go where a tipper cannot tip.
