For battery storage sites
Cable sand for battery storage sites
A battery energy storage system (BESS) site is rows of battery containers cabled to inverters, transformers and a substation, then connected to the grid. Every one of those cables goes in a trench with sand around it, often on a site next to a solar farm or substation. We deliver cable sand and sand for cement-bound sand anywhere in the UK, in loads booked around your programme.

What you usually need
Cable sand
For bedding and blinding the cables between the battery containers, inverters and transformers.
Cement-bound sand
Often asked for on the higher voltage cables to the substation and grid. Sand to mix on site, or CBS pre-mixed dry.
Artic and tipper loads
Artic loads for the whole site at the lowest haulage cost per tonne, tippers where access is tighter.
What matters on your jobs
Cables that run hot
Battery sites push a lot of power through their cables, so the sand around them matters. The cable rating calculations and the spec decide which backfill goes where.
The grid connection
The connection to the network is built to the network operator’s rules. Tell us the operator and voltage and we price what they ask for.
Paperwork
If the spec asks for test results to ENA TS 97-1, ask for our test certificate with your enquiry.
Programme and access
Tell us the trenching programme, site access and where to stockpile, and we book loads to keep up.
Questions
Which sand does a battery storage site need?
Your spec decides. Cable sand is the everyday choice for the site cables, with cement-bound sand where the cable rating calculations ask for it, often on the higher voltage cables.
Can you supply the whole site?
Yes. From artic loads for the full trench network to a single bulk bag for a last run.
Do you deliver to sites next to a solar farm or substation?
Yes. Send the postcode and the access details, including any weight limits on the site roads, and we price it.
